A quick look at myself, my students and my yogi friends confirms: every individual who brings their attention and dedication to the practice reaps the benefits. Disciplined practice over time makes for some difficult yet exciting changes, and once you ignite awareness, it's nearly impossible to extinguish. What begins with weekly asana practice can, with effort, blossom into a mindful and/or spiritual journey of unanticipated riches. What begins as a need for relaxation and mindfulness may result in strength, grounding and determination.
As you head into your summer adventures, remember that nothing else is like yoga. It's not just the endorphin rush of jogging, or the sweat of road riding, or the quiet patience of canoeing, or the relaxation of tanning, or the feast of barbecuing. It is none of these things and all of these things. It's the spice that changes and enriches experience. No matter where the summer takes you, find some quiet and attentive time on your mat to connect with and nurture your most radiant and powerful Self.
